Project “Nuvole Garden” - High-end hotel design by Lake Como

Suspended between sky and lake, in a place where imagination meets elegance, stands the Nuvole Garden Hotel in Brunate, a refined project of historical restoration and contemporary innovation by Hungarian designer Zoltán Varró. A place reborn from the ashes of a glorious past, transformed into a dreamlike setting where every detail tells a story and everything comes together to create a timeless experience.

The history of the building dates back to 1910, when architect Achille Manfredini inaugurated the Grand Hotel Milano, a destination for the elite of the time. After decades of neglect and a devastating fire in 2012, the structure was reborn in 2017 thanks to the vision of engineer Emilio Polillo and the creativity of Zoltán Varró, who transformed the entire complex, in the words of the designer, into a playground among the stars.

‘When I first saw the hotel and the breathtaking view it offered, I immediately thought of how, as a child, I imagined Mount Olympus—a mystical city in the clouds, home to the gods,’ says Varró. ‘That moment of inspiration led me to imagine a fairytale hotel where every guest could feel like they were living among the gods.’

The project blends naturalistic elements of Lake Como with Art Deco influences. The peacock, a figure of beauty and opulence, becomes the symbol of the hotel, appearing in the fabrics, colours and furnishings.

From the Federico Fellini-inspired fountain pool to the spa with original 19th-century Corinthian columns, everything at the Nuvole Garden Hotel is designed to enchant. The three restaurants – Sole, Blu and the Negroni Bar – celebrate the sun, water and Italian elegance respectively, in a continuous interplay of visual references, tailored fabrics, immersive scenery and high-end materials.

In such a rich context full of details and unusual features, even the technical aspects required a creative approach. The decorative profiles by NOËL & MARQUET, chosen for their versatility and flexibility, made it possible to elegantly resolve many of the design challenges.

From the corridors leading to the rooms and lounge areas to the ceiling decoration in the Blu restaurant, whose tailored design echoes that of the iron and glass canopy on the lake-facing façade, NOËL & MARQUET's ability to customise every detail has turned challenges into opportunities, confirming the brand as an indispensable ally for architects and designers seeking unconventional solutions. At the Nuvole Garden Hotel, the Belgian company did more than simply deliver products: it contributed to a bespoke vision of interior architecture, where its decorative solutions integrate seamlessly into projects that demand both technical precision and refined aesthetics. Every profile, every curve, every element is the result of continuous dialogue between the parties and NOËL & MARQUET, capable of transforming materials into visual and tactile emotions.

Custom-made skirtings: to achieve a skirting over 40 cm high with a classic, harmonious style, several smooth skirtings were layered on top of each other, grouted then painted as a single piece.

Curved elements: thanks to the use of the FLEX range, it has been possible to adapt skirtings and cornices even in areas with curved walls, maintaining stylistic continuity.

Profiles in corridors: installers used the Z10 chair rails, cut at 45° angles, to cover the aluminium technical profiles of the suspended ceilings, even in complex diagonal intersections.

Restaurant ceiling: one of the Belgian company's profiles, originally designed for wall use, was adapted to faithfully reproduce a three-dimensional ceiling design, ensuring precision and visual clarity.

The Nuvole Garden Hotel in Brunate is now a new symbol of visionary hospitality on Lake Como, where every detail tells a story and NOËL & MARQUET contributes to writing it with precision, elegance and innovation.
